Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Water Resources has warned the public of possible flooding in the upper stretches of the Mekong. It says heavy rain over the next few days is likely to see rising water levels. The areas under flood warning are Stung Treng, Kratie, Kampong Cham and Tbong Khmum.
The Ministry says the rain is being brought by the effects of Typhoon Cempaka which hit China late last week. The storm will cause some heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the upper Mekong basin. The Ministry has encouraged the relevant authorities and members of the public, especially those living along both sides of the Mekong River and other low-lying areas to harvest agricultural products before the rain sets in and be on the lookout for rising river levels.
